After last year’s astounding experience with Team In Training and the incredible Maui Half Marathon run, Matty has made a commitment to take up riding (as in cycling) in 2008 and participate in the 17th annual America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride in Lake Tahoe this June.

The ride is also proud to be the century selected by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training Program where participants from over 69 different cities across the country will raise over $8.5 million to support their mission of finding a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

Is Matty up for it? Yes! Does he need help? Yes!

I don’t want to brag…BUT…I am a Badass!!!! Saturday I biked 63 miles around Tamales Bay and Pt. Reyes….over 7,000 ft in elevation gained and lost, 21 mph headwinds, and it was COLD. Did I also mention I went to the House Of Prime Rib the night before and was slightly hung over…oh yeah!!! ALSO, my team now has the coolest name in biking….HEAVEY PEDAL!!!!! You must raise the devil horns and say it high pitched….HEAVEY PEDAL!!!!!! I fell really good right now, but realize Saturday was just the beginning as the training will just get harder and harder!!! Thanks to Specialized for the warm weather gear and everyone listen to the PODCAST of the Lost 30 from 4/7/08…lot’s of bike talk!!!!!

55 ½ MILES!!!! I can’t believe I did it, but I did. This weekend we rolled through the Danville area and clocked 55 ½ MILES. I am so proud of myself. A few weeks ago I puked after 10, so the TEAM is working for me. The ride was beautiful and I only fell once and that was not my fault!! Thanks Coach Barb’s dog Jesse! I am sore but happy today…thanks to the ride and that my WVU Mountaineers are in the Sweet 16! Ahhhh…life is good. BTW, tickets are selling fast for my awesome benefit show at the Red Devil. I have been sliding on the blogging, sorry!!! So, last weekend I learned a big lesson. Never try to ride without bike shorts!! WOW, can you say chaffing? But, at least the lesson was learned and I got to see Pt. Rhys from my bike…beautiful!!

Now, on the business! On Wed, tickets for my fundraiser goes on sale. Keep checking here for the info. Sarah and No Name’s bands are playing with awesome 80’s cover band Notorious! This will be cool and it will sell out, so get your tickets and help the L&L Society!! This will be great, so come and party with us on April 25!

Hey folks…sorry it’s been awhile since I blogged. We took vacation last week and my wife, my dog, and yes, my BIKE. went to Vegas to see my brother and his kids. The road trip was awesome…if you ever get the chance to it make sure you hit the Borax Mines and The Mad Greek on the way there, but I would suggest avoiding Bakersfield. Anyway, I got to bike Red Rock Park with my brother and it was amazing. There is so much beauty around Vegas once you get off the strip, WHO KNEW! Anyway still going at the biking and fundraising, so go to my page and donate! My fundraiser concert will be April 25, and ticket sales will start soon…I will keep you posted!

So it is official….I LOVE BIKING. This past weekend the Team and I did 20 miles in Dublin. It was fun and beautiful! It’s still a lot of hard work, but I found out that trading without a hangover is much easierJ Thanks to Meagan and Katie for keeping company and Coach Scott for motivation on the hills! I finally have my fundraising page up, GO MAKE A DONATION. I have raised 0 and need $10,000!!!

Also…mark you calendars for April 25. I will be throwing the greatest concert of all time to raise cash at the Red Devil Lounge….

This just in…Matty SUCKS at biking. Ok, maybe I am a little harsh and maybe I shouldn’t have attempted my first ride with a hangover, but the fact is I went for my first ride and it was hard!! We did 10 miles and I ached the whole time. Luckily, that is why I am doing TEAM. I have my coaches pushing me and talking to me the whole time…thanks Harry! So this Saturday is ride number two and I know it will be easier, oh God let it be easier!:)

In the words of the great rock band Whitesnake "Here I Go Again" ... After completing last years Maui Marathon, the urge to help the Luekemia and Lymphoma Society has brought me back to Team In Training. Last year I lost weight, felt great, and did something I never thought I could. This year I find myself out of shape again and ready for a new challenge to get me back. I have decided to ride a bike! Yes, funny pants, helmet and all. I will doing the Tahoe Century ride in June and start my trainging next week with my Team coaches.
